Best Stars Academy of Limbe’s Corines Che and Ekene Livinus, team captain of Tiko United FC, scored the goals in a 1-1 draw game in matchday one of the 2022/2023 South West Regional League (SWRL).
The mouthwatering encounter to open the season was witnessed at the Limbe Centenary Stadium between last year’s finalist, Best Stars Academy of Limbe and 2009 Cameroon league champion, Tiko United FC of Tiko.
The President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o was the guest of honour. Kickoff was done by the football legend who witnessed both the first and second football encounters.
Dominant in the early half of the game, the Academicians from the coastal city took the lead at the 13th minute, courtesy of a goal from Corines Che who outsmarted goalkeeper Paul Mballa.
Despite mounting pressure during the last minutes of the first half, all efforts from Tiko United were futile as they separated for the break one goal down.
Samba Boys captain, Ekene Livinus scored the equalizer from the penalty spot three minutes into the second segment following a handball in the box from an opponent defender.
The equalizer became a push factor for the boys of Coach Kengo Raymond, whose defenders secured the back line until the sound of the final whistle.
New comer, Adrian Metuge was arguably the decider of Tiko United’s fate in this encounter. The central defense man did an exceptional job at the backline, patnering with Abila Ebai Simon, Akamba Kingsly and Ekene Livinus.
Beautiful display from Best Star forward Ayuk Cosmas Tiku infront of goal though his contributions were all in vain. No goal was produced later.
President/coach Djoufack Saturnin’s boys could only manage to share the spoils at the end of the day.
This is the second consecutive season Tiko United and Best Stars are drawn in the same pool. In these three encounters, Best Stars has recorded one win and two draws and it’s been two draws equally and one loss for Tiko United.
