At least 12 people, mostly students, have been confirmed dead after a sand truck crashed on a bus transporting students to GTHS Ombe this morning.
The accident occurred at about 7:30am today at Moliwe, near Mile 4 motor park in Limbe, as the bus was transporting students from Limbe to Government Technical High School Ombe.
The sand truck is said to have lost control before crashing into the bus, killing its driver and at least 12 persons. The front side of the bus was completely twisted while the truck tumbled by the roadside.
Images from the accident scene are gruesome. Women could be heard wailing as bodies of school children littered the road.
We have not yet confirmed the exact number casualties from the accident.
Injured victims are said to have been transported to the Limbe Regional Hospital while the deceased were taken to the mortuary.
The accident caused long lines of traffic along the Limbe-Mutengene road for over an hour.
It is happening on the same day students are receiving their report cards to mark the end of Second Term for Primary and Secondary schools in the country.
