Cameroon government and German corporation join forces to combat water crisis in Tiko sub-division with inauguration of a 1 billion FCFA water project implemented by FEICOM.
The Mutengene community, under the leadership of the Lord Mayor HRH Chief Mesoso Peter III, warmly welcomed the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Mr. Elange Obam George, FEICOM Boss Mr. Philippe Akoa, the German Ambassador to Cameroon Dr. Corinna Fricke, and other dignitaries on Tuesday, 4th June 2024, at the Mutengene Brasseries Club.
The visit was aimed at officially inaugurating the Mutengene Portable Water Project, following a project launch by FEICOM in 2014 for competitive call for project proposals to the FEICOM medium city decentralization program to be funded by the German Corporation KFW. Tiko Municipality was among the councils whose project was selected, and after a long wait, this project(it) is now a reality.
This idea emerged as a priority for the Mutengene population due to the difficulties faced by the denizens of that area, as well as the risks children faced in carrying water from long distances, endangering the lives of many.
“Water is life,” as mentioned in a speech presented by the German Ambassador to Cameroon, encouraging the people of the Cameroon to provide measures that will ensure the long-term success and sustainability of this project.
