Residents of Mutengene poured out on the streets this morning of December 9th to protest against months of blackout. The protest caused a temporary halt in vehicle traffic along the Mutengene—Tiko road, causing long queues on the busy road.
Parts of Mutengene have been without electricity for over nine months, according to residents—a problem also facing several neighborhoods in Buea, the South West regional capital.
The Divisional Officer of Tiko, Nokuri Samuel Ekpa, in a diplomatic exchange with the disgruntled residents, said Eneo said Eneo plans to install 17 new transformers in Buea, Tiko and Mutengene in the coming weeks to stem the power crisis.
Mary Ndinge Lyonga is a marketing assistant at Eagle Wings and Spice Located at Mutengene, Tiko Road.
She was once a Volunteer at the Tiko Council Community Radio for a period of 3 months under the Leadership of Mme Sarah Nkongho as the Station Manager. She is a graduate from the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Faculty of Social and Management Science, University of Buea.
