GLONETA Tiko: IT vocational training centre for the underprivilege.

Global Network for Technological Advancement (GLONETA) is a community based non-profit organization based in Tiko, at the former Tiko Council building down Street 5, South West region of Cameroon.

GLONETA commits itself to the development of a caring and sustaining society for underprivilege children and young/old people who have the zeal to be computer literate and to meet up with the challenges of the 21st century in technology.

The organization was founded by Stephen Ndumbe in 2011 at Street 4, Tiko where they were dealing with general electronic repairs. As time went on they upgraded to computer literacy training centre thus now dealing with general ICT, in response to children’s education and development in the South West region of Cameroon.

With the help of of their local partners like Tiko Council, Maflekumen Higher Institute and the Sub Delegation Of Youth Affairs Tiko, local and international volunteers, GLONETA has grown substantially over the past years. They started with four (04) students and today they boost of having thirty-five (35) students.

GLONETA’s primary goal is to develop an enabling environment for the effective growth and development of underprivileged children and young people through innovative programs in computer literacy and community development.

The organization’s growth and activities are shaped by the following objectives:

• To offer a secured and stable environment for children and youths.
• To enable/motivate parents and teachers take an active role in child development.
• To help rectify problems existing in the local educational system.
• To address the issue of school dropout and failure.
• To contribute to the eradication of poverty through quality and functional education.
• To introduce an alternative approach to education in Cameroon.
• To prevent rural exodus by building a strong community.
• To use Sports to mobilize children and young people channel their energy towards productive initiatives.

Speaking to Tiko Magazine, the Founder explains that the organization has as mission:

• To make sure that the less privilege have the opportunity to learn for free
• To help the disable achieve some skills which can help them make a living
• To develop a career and sustaining environment for children and young people through innovative programs.
• To make sure children of the disable are given the opportunity to study for free
• To reduce crime wave in the society and make the nation a better place
• To impart knowledge to the youth of the community so that they can be self-employed and to take care of the community and our parents.

GLONETA currently runs many successful IT programs that have great impact on Tiko municipality and its environs. Their major challenges remains accommodation, allowances to volunteers and equipment.
